INVESTIGATIVE CHARGES/COMPLAINTS (EEOC/NLRB/DOL)

OUR SERVICES:

Investigative charges or complaints from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Department of Labor (DOL), or their associated state/local government agencies, can often be confusing and frightening for even experienced HR professionals. HR Squared not only helps navigate these processes in a manner intended to protect the employer’s interests, it also provides clear “after-action” guidance to identify and promote workplace best practices that can be adopted for future use. Our goal is not only to help protect your interests now, but also to make your workplace better going forward!
WORKPLACE CULTURE/ UNION VULNERABILITY
HR Squared can provide full-day or multiple-day workshops aimed at addressing the health of your workplace culture and identifying the existing practices and conditions that could potentially do harm to it. Workshops include tailored, targeted training, specific to the assessment's findings, intended to help your HR professionals and operational leaders navigate these more complex workplace concerns. We not only assess the health of your workplace culture, we provide you with the strategies to improve and preserve it!
HANDBOOK/POLICY REVIEW
Too many employers use their employee handbook simply as a book of rules to be followed, but a well-constructed handbook can serve to inspire your employees, guide your leaders, and define your workplace culture. HR Squared can review and revise your existing employee handbook, or create a new handbook, to ensure that your workplace expectations are clearly expressed, and your workplace culture is well defined, for your employees and their leaders.

UNION NEGOTIATION PREPARATION & STRATEGY

Successful union negotiations begin long before the first proposal is exchanged. We partner with employers to deliver comprehensive preparation, strategic planning, and expert guidance to ensure you enter negotiations with clarity, confidence, and control. Our services are designed to help organizations move from reactive to proactive—aligning leadership, identifying priorities, and building a disciplined negotiation strategy grounded in data and operational reality. The result is a disciplined, well-prepared approach that strengthens your position, protects your organization, and drives more predictable, successful outcomes at the bargaining table.
Whether you are looking for an entirely fresh perspective, or simply need an experienced "second set of eyes," HR Squared will work with you to review and resolve your workplace concerns in a manner consistent with your specific business needs. Consultation services are available by hourly fee or can be tailored via monthly retainer for employers seeking additional value through regular partnership with HR Squared.

OUR OWNER:

Brian Christopher Ussery is a proud husband and father, and a senior human resources and labor relations consultant with more than twenty-five years of experience advising employers on complex employee relations, labor relations, and workplace compliance matters. His career uniquely blends senior in-house executive leadership with extensive management-sided legal practice, allowing him to deliver practical, business-focused solutions grounded in real-world operational experience. Brian has served in executive labor relations leadership roles for some of the country’s most recognized hospitality and entertainment brands, including Walt Disney Parks & Resorts and Omni Hotels & Resorts. In these roles, he provided strategic oversight for the negotiation and administration of dozens of collective bargaining agreements across multiple jurisdictions, representing workforces numbering in the thousands. He has created and led preventative labor relations strategies designed to preserve and strengthen direct employer–employee relationships, while effectively managing unionized environments and mitigating labor risk. Prior to transitioning fully into executive and consulting roles, Brian spent nearly two decades as a management-sided labor and employment attorney with nationally recognized law firms. In private practice, he counseled employers across a broad range of industries on all aspects of labor and employment law, represented management in litigation and arbitration, and led collective bargaining negotiations with a wide array of labor organizations. This legal foundation informs his consulting approach, enabling him to anticipate risk, align strategy with compliance requirements, and provide clear, practical guidance. Brian holds a Juris Doctor from Florida State University College of Law and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Tampa. He is admitted to practice law in Florida and Virginia and holds an Executive Human Resources Management Certification from Cornell University. He has been recognized by Super Lawyers and Florida Trend for excellence in labor and employment law and has held leadership roles within the legal and professional community. Prior to his legal career, Brian was drafted by the California Angels (1992) and Anaheim Angels (1996) in the MLB Minor League Draft and played in the Anaheim Angels minor league system (1996-1998). He was a member of the 1993 (player) and 2013 (assistant coach) University of Tampa NCAA Division II National Championship Baseball Teams and was a 1994 Verizon Academic All American (Baseball).
